5 Signs Your HVAC System Needs a Professional Inspection

Spring has sprung and that means you’re likely making the switch from heating to air conditioning in the coming weeks. Before you kick off the warm weather season, which will likely last through much of the year, there are several signs that you may need an HVAC tune up or inspection first.

1. Strange Sounds. If you hear squealing, grinding, or rattling this could mean a big problem. These noises could mean anything from debris, or yes an animal, in your unit to a broken part or motor.

2. Strange Odors. If you just can’t pinpoint that bad smell in your home, it could be your HVAC unit. A musty, dirty, rotten or burning smell could be the result of overheating, mold, or even a gas leak. Any unusual smell should be evaluated immediately to troubleshoot the cause.

3. Weak Air Flow. If you have a room or rooms in your home that stay extremely hot or cold, there could be an air flow issue. A broken or torn air duct, blocked vent or clogged filters could cause weak or uneven airflow. Our professional technicians will evaluate during their inspection.

4. Stays Running. Do you feel like you constantly hear or feel your unit running? Not only does this lead to expensive utility bills, but it can also cause your unit to wear out quicker. An inspection can pinpoint if this is a simple thermostat issue or a more complicated repair is needed.

5.Humid House. As warm weather arrives, your home shouldn’t constantly feel muggy and humid. Your air conditioning unit should be pulling the humidity out of the air, making your home feel cool and comfortable. Humid air can lead to mold and mildew growth as well.

Just like you receive a tune up for your car, get a yearly physical for yourself, and spring clean your home, your HVAC unit needs routine maintenance as well. If you’re experiencing any of these signs above, give Thornton’s Heating & Air Conditioning a call to troubleshoot and get you back up in running in time to enjoy the new season.
